TIME TRAVEL PLOTTING POST PART 2
AS MOST OF YOU PROBABLY RECALL, a little while back we put up a post for discussing a plot where a group of characters would show up from 10 years into a grimdark alternate future to try to change the past. WE WOULD STILL LIKE TO DO THIS, but a few things need to be hammered into place before we can go ahead with it.
What we DO know is that ten years into the future, Earth will be approximately half under the tyrannical rule of Sovereign, and half under the equally tyrannical rule of Princess Unikitty. Each of them is trying to wrest control of the other half from their rival, but they must also contest with various resistance groups, as well as the planet being ongoingly under siege by various alien forces – Alternians, Skrulls, etc. - which are only just being fought off every time they stop clawing at one another's throats for long enough to try to invade, leaving Earth increasingly dystopian and war-weary.
A group of rebels will use a time machine – I think there was talk of it having been constructed by Black Ghost – to travel back to CH's present day in order to prevent this future from coming to pass.
After this is accomplished, all or some of the time travellers will go back into the future with some present-day characters in tow in order to, probably, do something with the time machine to make sure that the timeline will be properly reset.
THINGS WE NEED TO ESTABLISH:
• Which characters are coming back into the present? Doesn't have to just be resistance fighters – they can be followed through or infiltrated by villains! In fact it would be pretty great if they were followed through by a few bad guys, because that would better justify needing present-day characters to come back to the future with them to help seize the time machine back.
• What event are they attempting to stop?
• Who came up with this plan?
SO reply to this post with what your character/s are doing in all this (their status in the future timeline, whether they'll be involved in goings-on in the present), and if you want to, make suggestions for the above bullet points, and GET DISCUSSIN'
(If anyone has any characters they would like to app to bring in during this plot and leave in the past after it's over, also, feel free to throw ideas around for that!)

FUTURE KARKAT is with the RESISTANCE and is kind of grizzled but CRIES A LOT. He will not be coming back into the present – whatever bad guys end up seizing control of the time machine probably tied him to a chair as well. This ALWAYS HAPPENS.
FUTURE MEGATRON has had an epiphany about what a jerk he is following the death of OPTIMUS PRIME, fallen into regret and despair, abdicated his position as LEADER OF THE DECEPTICONS, and is currently MOPING ALONE IN A CAVE SOMEWHERE LIKE A JACKASS
I mmmaayyy send Celestia and/or Karkat into the future but Megatron will probably be staying where he is! Celestia will probably interact with the time travellers in some significant capacity I figure, probably?

Future Metabee is fighting with the resistance and now inhabits the salvaged husk of an insecticon warrior. He still goes out of his way to pick fights and is more destructive than before. He may be going into the present, I haven't really decided yet.
Present Metabee will be going into the future.
BLACK GHOST
Future Black Ghost has given up his life of evil after Soverieng rudely dethroned him from his place in TRIDENT and subsequently stole his dream of ruling the world with an evil cyborg army. He's since taken up his old anti-hero persona The Skull Man and has joined the resistance as one of the resident tech experts and maintains everyone's new grimdark cybernetics. He's basically the jaded bitter uncle of the resistance. He will not be going to the present, probably because he has to make sure the time machine keeps working.
Last I heard he and Ravirn managed to build the time machine through a combination of future technology and magic software. If there's any sort of stuff going on with the time machine he should probably know about.
Present Black Ghost will not be going to the future, he has more important things to do.
ULTRA MAGNUS
I have no idea what to do with this guy, if I don't think of anything assume he has died or left the planet sometime in the interim of the 10 year time jump. If anyone has any ideas or wants to do something with him let me know, but I'll probably be focusing on the other two guys for the majority of the event.
Present Ultra Magnus is very likely not traveling to the future.

FUTURE!TERRY is evil, probably excessively powered in the fear department because of Magic Reasons and wears a lot of Cool Goth Suits. I have no idea what his motivations are beyond Misanthropy and Being A Dick but really who cares. Will probably not be coming to the present but can mos def be around in the future if people want to harass him.
FUTURE!RAIDEN is a quasi-emotionless battlebot/vigilante who has EVEN LESS qualms about killing the shit out of people than he has now. PRRROBABLY WON'T BE COMING TO THE PRESENT?
FUTURE!CHRIS is a roguish anti-hero type with stubble and scars and is worryingly buff when compared to current Chris. Also his arms are now full of weapons because why the fuck not. (Think Adam Jensen except maybe not with the Typhoon or maybe WITH THE TYPHOON this is not set in stone.) His fashion sense has vastly improved in the near future and also he will be in the present because this is a gift you all need in your lives. I may well be looking into apping him to keep permanently but I don't know, is it weird to play two versions of the same character?
CURRENT!TERRY will be sticking in the present, though he may be helping with the whole co-ordinating this clusterfuck of a situation with CONDOR and whatnot.
CURRENT!CHRIS is up in the air, he may want to go to the future he may want to stay here. idk what to do with him honestly.
CURRENT!RAIDEN is going to want to kick ass in the future it's gonna be great guys, you can trust him he has a lot of weapons and can do sweet backflips.

Pinpointing the event that triggered the grimdark future would probably be a good idea, but since there hasn't been any discussion of time traveling to that point to change things directly it may not be as integral for the plot?
Perhaps the time machine that Black Ghost and Ravirn made has the potential to alter the timeline remotely (magic) but it needs something in order to make that work (magic amulet? power source? super computer chip? all of the above?). The Future Rebels travel back to the past to obtain it, but are followed by Evil Forces. Maybe the Evil Forces take the mcguffin and return to the future to deliver it to their lord and master? So the Future Rebels and their newly acquired Present Allies travel back to the future to steal them back, power up the time machine, and fix everything. Once the machine works all the Present Allies are immediately thrown back to the past as the timeline resets itself (does anyone remember the trip to future, or no because time travel paradox would now make it so it never happened?).
Is the time machine compromised when the Evil Forces go through it? Does this become a problem that needs to be solved?
This gives us a few different direction points for each part of the event so people can get involved in whatever suits their character best.
PART 1:
- Obtaining the McGuffin
- Evil: Stealing the McGuffin
- Planning the Trip to the Future
- Fighting?
PART 2:
- Preparing for the Final Battle
- Retrieving the McGuffin
- Recovering/Fixing the Time Machine
- More Fighting?

i have admittedly been a LITTLE out of the loop on how things are supposed to go but i think harry mentioned that they needed to have something done to the time machine in order to ensure the timeline properly resets? as of right now i am NOT SUPER SURE why present-day folks would need to go into the future (i have probably missed something feel free to explain to me) but i think it would be good to hammer out the event that precipitates the grimdark future.
maybe it can be some kind of technology falling into the wrong hands that needs to be destroyed?

[McGuffin] is the item that, upon falling in to the wrong hands, may or may not have triggered the chain of events that led to Grimdark Future. Because of that, it has High Values Of Potentiality; it could be something simple, mundane, but because of the importance to the Grimdark Timeline it's essential to the spell. So, 'originally', the plan was to obtain the McGuffin and destroy/Do Something with it...
(Alternatively; something important to Timespace. Go get the Large Hadron Collider, put it in this tiny box, and get it back to the future, guys, have fun.)
...but because plans never go right, in order to secure this past as the past, the whole future-jump is necessary, too. Whether it be because the McGuffin is stolen or they need an 'anchor' of some sort to ensure things don't just readjust and go Grimdark anyway (or at least Completely Removing This Timeline From The Table- hey, future!Ravirn wouldn't want it at all)...reasons, basically.
It could also be because as it turns out, the McGuffin isn't enough, and/or they need some people from the present/past to trigger it as well.

MIKO
Future Miko is a badass resistance fighter with a bunch of scars and a robot arm and an eyepatch and somehow even less tact than she had when she was a teenager, and she will be going to the present.
Present Miko will probably be going to the future.
PEONY
Future Peony, as mentioned before, is one of the main contenders for WORLD DOMINATION. She is pretty much an awful tyrant with a tendency to switch very abruptly from condescendingly friendly and confident to COMPLETELY ENRAGED AND MURDEROUS when things don't go her way. She will NOT be going to the present.
VELOCI
Future Veloci is basically just some angry bitter dude hiding out somewhere after Sovereign turned on him. He MIGHT go to the present to try to keep that from happening, I'm not sure yet.
GAJEEL
Future Gajeel will not be doing anything because he is extremely dead. THAT SAID, though, he worked for Sovereign for a few years, turned on him, tried to protect someone else, and was murdered immediately, which provides opportunities for, y'know, people who he may have tried to kill while under Sov's influence, as well as who he tried to save. That stuff.
Also, no future version here, but ARTEMIS
Present Artemis miiight be going to the future?? I'm not 100% sure yet but it's at least a possibility.

LINA is dead in the grimdark future, most likely from loss of control of some heavy duty magic.
KNOCK OUT is also dead in the future, having died after Breakdown's body was inhabited by grimdark Sollux.
BAELHEIT is either dead or in Sovereign's custody, not sure which. I'd be fine with either -- pretty sure that earlier Mindy & I established that Sovereign & Baelheit worked together on some kind of cyborg army before Sovereign turned on Baelheit and used Milly as a bargaining chip.
MILLY isn't dead, but she's close enough to it -- she is MERE INCHES FROM DEATH and is in suspended animation in a tube in Sovereign's possession, which he's been using as leverage over Baelheit for sometime. Maybe he has it tastefully displayed in his living room, idk.
ARCEE is DEFINITELY NOT DEAD; in fact, she inherited the Matrix of Leadership after Optimus Prime's death and became SOLUS PRIME and has been fighting in the resistance as well as trying to find a way off the planet.
Arcee/Solus Prime will be the only one coming to the present from the future (although I want to send present Milly into the future when they go). She'll probably be pretty keen on stopping whatever it is they're trying to stop.
I'm totally fine with Baelheit or Lina having a hand in the PRESENT-DAY EVENT that needs to be stopped (science or magic, take yr pick), if we need any people involved.

He has done various amounts of Bad Things as he becomes more and more desperate for immortality/a way to stop his impending damnation within the same talisman that gives him power. So basically, Cool Motives, SOMEONE PLEASE STOP THIS GUY. If you need someone to be responsible for terrible things, though, he's good to blame.
RAVIRN, after a brief stint with Unikitty, now has dedicated his life to basically Ruining All Her Plans. His Webgoblin is crippled, and he's nowhere near as much as a Power as he would be back home, but the Raven can still cause good amounts of chaos when he puts his mind to it. He's not quite Resistance, though he works closely with them, and is helping with the design/programming of the Time Travel machine alonig with Black Ghost.
He will not be going in to the past, though he will be sending a specific program with the time travelers so that he can hit up with himself in the present and maintain Mission Control from both ends as necessary. How? Magic.

FUTURE LYRA is a sketchy WIZARD in a TRENCHCOAT barely averting MAGICAL CATASTROPHE through CUNNING TRICKS and KNOWLEDGE OF THE FUTURE, she will not be going to the present but will probably have a cameo in the future
regular lyra will be going to the future to advance the plot as needed and jon will do whatever the trailblazers do but future jon is really taking the lead here

Verity Future Verity is more involved in SHENNAINGANS, and now has cool EXO-SUIT ARMOUR. It's really cool. Leaning towards having her come to the present...not sure.
Rodimus FUTURE RODIMUS isn't with the Autobots. He probably quit/got kicked out/both after being a total whiny baby about SOMETHING or other. He has more flames. A more robot robot arm. He is 900% NOT what present Rodimus wants to be when he grows up.
THAT'S ALL I'VE GOT SO FAR. I haven't figured anything out with Saren because I'm only just now trying to salvage my...everything in this game. If I get my shit together maybe I will think of something. I will probably just say he is dead or MIA for now, unless I suddenly think of something really good!

Rotorstorm: She’s the only one I have some really solid ideas for. I was thinking that she’d take up one of the leadership roles for the resistance forces. I don’t have too many of the details worked out, because I wanted to run it by everyone first, but if people are onboard with this then I’ll start adding some more :>
I’m also PRETTY sure she’ll be one of the future characters to go back into the past to warn everyone about all the grimdarkness. And also probably have a few gnarly scars and whatnot.
Drift: NOT REALLY SURE???…Too many of the Cybertronians are dead so I feel like I should do something different with him. Maybe shadowplayed? Maybe captured by someone? Maybe vehicle mode-locked? IDK. I will update if I make any more progress.
Joshua: I haven’t really gotten him too far into the game yet, so I wanna hold off on doing anything major. I might just have him be kinda mysteriously MIA if I can’t think of anything better.
